My Crazy Dream

December 9, 2008

dreamsA couple of weeks ago I stopped dreaming.  Ask my wife and close friends and they’ll tell you I have some really crazy dreams.  Actually crazy doesn’t describe them accurately enough.  Some are just flat out weird.  But a couple of weeks ago I quit dreaming.  Or at least I quit remembering what I was dreaming about.  Most of the time I can remember my dreams in great detail.  Sometimes even color.  (Even though I’ve heard that’s  not possible!)

A few nights ago I finally had another really vivid and crazy dream.  It all started out with me going to the dentist.  One of my least favorite places to go.  It ranks right up there with car repairs.  A necessary evil!  So I was at this dentist office and it must have been a new dentist, because I didn’t recognize the place and I didn’t recognize the dentist.  When he examined my teeth he found a cavity so he quickly filled it.  But as I was leaving it just didn’t feel right.  The new filling was rough and jagged and I was worried it would keep bothering me.  I found some dental floss and slid it between the two teeth where the new filling was and it caused the new filling to fall out.

The dream then turned into an all day process of trying to get the dentist to fix the messed up filling.  It was chaos!  They were too busy to work me in, so I had to wait.  At one point I even walked down the street to a Walmart and stood in line to get into the store.  I’m not sure why there was a line and once I got to the front, I found out it was the garden department and since I was going into the regular store I wasn’t required to wait.  Frustrating!

I finally made it back to the dentist’s office by the end of the day.  When I arrived my wife and son were there waiting for me.  Apparently they had been waiting for a long time because my son had grown impatient and taken off all his clothes.  He was running around the office in his walker buck naked.  I was embarrassed, but I finally got my tooth filled.

Normally I wouldn’t share a dream like this, but it was weired how the next day at work seemed vaguely familiar.  I was at the refinery instead of a dentist office, but everything we tried to do that day was like pulling teeth.  It was frustrating and at one point, the way I yelled at an inspector, was flat out embarrassing.

As we walked out of the refinery that evening, I shared my dream with my two coworkers.  We had a good laugh and they both agreed it sounded a lot like our experiences that day.  Chaotic and frustrating!
