A couple of weeks ago I wrote a post about Autism and what my wife and I read on her Starbucks cup that morning.  Since writting the post I’ve read an incredible article in the March issue of Wired Magazine about Autism and I’ve been feeling convicted to make a correction.

One of the comments I made when talking about the kids in my son’s bowling league was “many of them struggle with Autism, a condition that leaves them seemingly trapped within their own minds.”  The article helped me understand that Autism is a disorder and ”yes” they may seem trapped in their own minds by us, but many people who have been diagnosed with Autism are living life!

Amanda Baggs is one of those people.  She’s an avid blogger and has posted amazing videos on YouTube.  You should check them out.

My apologies to Amanda and anyone else who has been diagnosed with Autism.  I feel I’m the ignorant one on this subject, but I want to learn.  This article has helped me understand that I need to educate myself and learn more in order to better understand, communicate and love those who have this disorder.  Thanks Amanda for helping me change the way I think about Autism!
