AMERICAN OR CHRISTIAN CONFLICT…OR BOTH

Is this a conflict of Church & State? And does your church have both of these flags displayed in the front of the church?

Throw in a life size cross and you’ll really be making a political statement for the empire.

PLEDGE ALLEGIANCE TO…

Is it possible to pledge allegiance to both Jesus and the flag?  Do you think Jesus would wear a red, white, and blue robe if he was here today?

I don’t know…Jesus used political jargon quite a lot in His day!

  2. I agree, Jesus did use political jargon, but it was anti-empire poliltical jargon. Every political statement he made and did, was in protest to the way Rome was oppressing the marginalized of society. Jesus was for an upside down kingdom that was the complete opposite of power and control like Rome.

Agreed. But can one not do the same today?

Kyle, Thanks for stopping in. Wrestle is a good word…I use it all the time to describe how hard my heart hits on the words of our Lord Jesus. Let me encourage you by saying that getting into the brawl (and letting the brawl get into you) is the most important move you can make. Otherwise you miss the fight (or don’t realize one is going on). The fact that I can hear the lament of your struggle proves that you are choosing the path of discipleship. Remember, Jesus the Living Word is best understood (and wrestled with) in community.

  8. Dtrane…I’ve certainly been wrestling this year. Much of my wrestling has been with God and as a result, my life, my family, future, calling, and passion. I’m happy to wrestle with God, I just wish I was better at it. I do know that he’ll shape me, train me, and help me to be better in all the areas listed above.

Thanks again for your comments! Kyle

(Will you be at Catalyst this week?)
